Getting Started

Hello and welcome to all of you. I've never blogged before, so bear with me if my first few attempts are a little clunky. I hope to use this space to keep you up to date on new yarn arrivals and happenings at Fiber Naturell. Once I figure out how to do it, I'll also post pictures of projects I'm working on or have recently completed, and projects other knitters have made. And I'm open to suggestions, so please leave comments and let me know what you'd like to see here.

If you're on the shop's e-mail list, you know I have started a knit-a-long on Thursday afternoons. We have 5 members so far and have room for more. We meet from 3:00-5:00PM and our current project is the Chris Bylsma's Crayon Box jacket. The plan is to start a new project every 3 months; that way there's little pressure to finish your project in a short amount of time.
The great part of a knit-a-long is that you can join at any time, come to as many or as few meetings as you wish, work at your own pace and get lots of positive support from your fellow knitters. We have one over-achiever (no names used without prior permission) in the group who is halfway finished and, at the other end, we have a knitter who just joined and started the jacket today. Everyone's jacket is completely different from the next. One person is using the same yarn throughout, another is using 3 different colorways as a base and adding coordinating yarns as she goes, another is using black as her base color and is adding other colors and textures as her muse inspires her. I'm using one solid color and one self-striping yarn for the entire garment. This was after at least 6 false starts trying to work in other fibers and colors. Some of my other starts looked OK, but I probably wouldn't have worn them.

We've just gotten some great new lace yarns into the shop. We have Jojoland's Harmony in 2 colorways and Alpaca with a Twist's Fino in several colors. As always, if there's a color that you want that we don't have, we will gladly order it for you.

We are also going to be placing an order soon with Knit One Crochet Too for Paintbox and TyDy. You can go to their website by following the link from Fibernaturell.com and view the different colorways. Let us know if there is a color you prefer. I am currently making a tank top for one of my nieces out of TyDy in the Grape colorway; it's a really nice cotton yarn to work with. As I said before, once I figure out how, I'll post a picture of it.

Barbro, Robin and I met this week to put a schedule of classes together for the fall. Yes, we're finally getting organized. The schedule will be listed on the stores website, and, again, once I figure out how, I'll have a link to it from here.

The longer I type, the worse my spelling gets, and I have now reached the point of diminishing returns.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this and that you will return to see what else is going on in my world of knitting.

Until the next time,

Roz
